Yes. A dental implant replaces the root of a lost tooth and is made of titanium or zirconia, the same materials used for artificial joints. This practice offers metal-free implant options made from zirconia instead of titanium, and the team discusses the benefits and considerations with each patient to determine whether zirconia is an appropriate treatment option for that case.

What anesthesia options are offered for oral surgery here, and how is that decided?

Two options are available: local and general. The choice is made during consultation with the surgeon, based on the individual case. Patients receiving general anesthesia must arrange for someone to drive them to the office and may have no food or drink, including plain water, for the eight hours before the appointment. Patients choosing local anesthesia may drive themselves.

What happens on the day of a surgical appointment at this office?

Documents are signed and pre-treatment instructions followed in advance. On arrival, patients remain in the parking lot and call the office; staff then escort them in after a temperature check and health screening, with everyone in the vehicle masked. A new Covid screening form is completed for current history, and patients wash their hands before entering the surgical area.

What aftercare instructions follow implant placement?

The wound is left undisturbed on the day of surgery, with no rinsing, spitting or touching; a metal healing abutment protrudes through the gum tissue. Ice is applied to the cheek continuously for the first 36 hours, diet is limited to soft food and liquids initially, and prescribed antibiotics and Peridex rinse are used as directed, with warm salt water rinses four to five times daily.

Can the initial consultation be done remotely?

Yes. Zoom-Telehealth consultations are available and follow the same structure as an in-person consultation; the difference is that the intraoral examination is carried out on the day of surgery instead. Contact-free options were introduced for in-person visits as well, and scheduling is arranged to limit the number of people a patient encounters in the office.
